Song of Solomon 4:7

"You are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you."

I chose this verse for the girls because it holds a special place in my heart. After Evie's diagnosis, I was worried not only about how she would manage day-to-day life, but also about how others might treat her because of her differences. Before her surgery, she would tilt her head to one side, and one of her eye would sometimes drift upward. As she got closer to school age, I found myself worrying that other children would make fun of her.

Before her surgery, her physical therapist came to our home, and I shared with her how heartbroken I was. I told her that I just wanted Evie's eye to be perfect. She gently reminded me that Jesus had already made Evie perfect. Just because her eye didn't look the same as everyone else's didn't mean she wasn't fearfully and wonderfully made in His image. She was right.

God doesn't make mistakes, and Evie has always been perfect exactly as He created her. I prayed, surrendered my fears, and placed the outcome of her surgery in God's hands. Whatever happened, I trusted that His plan for her life was good.

My hope is that every girl who reads this knows how beautiful she is and remembers that she was created in the perfect image of God. We don't have to compare ourselves to anyone else because God intentionally and wonderfully made each of us exactly as we are.
